The Challenge

The Western Range Project, located approximately 15 kilometres west of Paraburdoo in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, required new electrical infrastructure to support mine development and operations.

To support the project, new distribution infrastructure was required, including overhead power lines, substations and associated electrical infrastructure across the site.

Genus was engaged to deliver the design, supply and installation of the network infrastructure supporting the project.

The Genus Approach

Genus was contracted to undertake the design, supply and installation of 33kV overhead lines and associated infrastructure for the Western Range Project.

The project draws on Genus’ integrated capability across Transmission, Distribution, Substations and Testing & Commissioning to deliver power infrastructure supporting operations in the Pilbara.

Project delivery is supported by an estimated workforce of approximately 30 personnel.

Delivery in action

Genus is delivering electrical infrastructure works associated with the Western Range development.

The scope includes:

  • Design, supply and installation of 33kV overhead power lines
  • Installation and termination of buried cables at road crossings
  • Substation infrastructure works
  • Supply and installation of pole-top power transformers
  • Testing and commissioning activities

The project incorporates overhead distribution, underground cable infrastructure and associated electrical systems.

The outcome

Project ongoing.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2025.

Once complete, the infrastructure will support power distribution requirements across the Western Range development.
