Reliable energy infrastructure is critical to supporting Rio Tinto's extensive iron ore operations across the Pilbara.
Located approximately 80km south of Karratha, the Millstream Substation Project involves the expansion of Rio Tinto's existing 220kV substation infrastructure in a remote and operational environment.
With construction commencing immediately and completion targeted for mid-2028, the project requires the safe and efficient delivery of critical electrical infrastructure while supporting the ongoing operation and expansion of Rio Tinto's Pilbara network.
Genus was awarded the Millstream 220kV Substation contract under its Master Construction Agreement with Rio Tinto for Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls works.
The three-year agreement supports construction, brownfields expansion and end-of-life replacement works across Rio Tinto's Pilbara iron ore operations, including mines, ports, rail and associated infrastructure.
Building on a long-standing and successful relationship with Rio Tinto, Genus will bring its experience in delivering complex energy infrastructure projects to safely and efficiently deliver the Millstream Substation expansion.
Genus has been contracted to construct the 220kV Millstream Substation expansion, with a project workforce of approximately 50 personnel supporting delivery.
The project forms part of Genus' broader commitment to delivering essential infrastructure for Australia's resources and energy sectors, with construction underway and completion anticipated in mid-2028.
