The Challenge

As part of a maintenance and remedial works contract with Transgrid, Genus delivered refurbishment and maintenance works across Line 95 to support the continued safety, performance and structural integrity of critical transmission infrastructure.

The project involved extensive asset replacement and refurbishment works across multiple towers, including upgrades to structural components, foundations and transmission hardware.

The Genus Approach

Genus was responsible for delivering a broad program of maintenance, remediation and asset replacement works across Line 95.

The project combined structural remediation, component replacement, access improvements and environmental remediation activities to support long-term asset performance and operational reliability.

Genus also managed associated site works including vegetation clearing, track repairs, infrastructure upgrades and disposal activities.

Delivery in action

The project involved extensive maintenance and replacement activities across the transmission line corridor.

The scope included:

  • Tower refurbishment and structural remediation
  • Replacement of 4,382 sets of bolts, nuts and washers across 14 towers
  • Replacement of tower members on 2 towers
  • Bristle blasting and painting of tower members across 11 towers
  • Foundation and stub remediation works, including landscaping, on 13 towers
  • Insulator and hardware replacement
  • Replacement of insulators on:
    • 7 suspension towers
    • 1 suspension tower with double strings
    • 5 tension towers, including pilot strings
  • Replacement of insulator hangers on 1 tower
  • Replacement of double link plates on 5 towers
  • Replacement of conductor spacers across 15 spans and jumpers on 5 tension towers
  • Replacement of vibration dampers on 3 towers
  • Replacement of earthwire fittings and bonds across:
    • 8 suspension towers
    • 5 tension towers
  • Safety and access upgrades
  • Replacement of danger sign plates on 14 towers
  • Replacement of anti-climbers on 10 towers
  • Replacement of tower ladders on 5 towers
  • Site preparation and remediation
  • Genus also completed:
  • Vegetation clearing works
  • Track repairs and route clearing activities
  • Installation of rock causeways and access gates
  • Grading and construction of access infrastructure
  • Dismantling and disposal of replaced hardware
  • Waste management and safe disposal activities
  • Site preparation and remediation works supporting safe delivery across the corridor
  • Delivery of work-as-executed drawings and inspection / test check sheets

The outcome

The successful completion of the project supports the continued safety, efficiency and structural integrity of Line 95.

The refurbishment and remediation works have strengthened asset condition, improved infrastructure performance and extended the operational life of the transmission line.
