Genus secured the Pannawonica 132kV Bulk Supply Substation (BSS) Expansion and 33kV Distribution Contract with Rio Tinto to support operations across the Robe Valley iron ore region.
Robe Valley produces iron ore from the Mesa A and Mesa J deposits and is located approximately 140 kilometres south-west of Karratha in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
To support ongoing operations and future power requirements, expansion of the existing bulk supply infrastructure and new distribution assets were required across the network.
The project involved upgrades to high-voltage substation infrastructure together with onsite and offsite distribution works.
Genus was engaged to undertake the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the Pannawonica 132kV Bulk Supply Substation expansion together with associated 33kV power line infrastructure.
The project further strengthened Genus’ relationship with Rio Tinto and reinforced the company’s position as a leading provider of power infrastructure solutions in Australia.
As noted by GenusPlus Group CEO David Riches:
“The group is delighted Rio Tinto selected PLP for this milestone opportunity. Not only does this further enhance our relationship with Rio Tinto, but also our capability in our industry, and to expand on the great work we have delivered in the past. We are delighted to work collaboratively with Rio Tinto to deliver this project safely.”
