BHP’s South Flank project forms part of a broader initiative to increase the mining, processing and out-load capacity of the existing Mining Area C iron ore hub in the Pilbara.
To support expansion of operations, new transmission infrastructure was required to connect the South Flank mining area and associated operational infrastructure into the existing electrical network.
The project required high-voltage transmission infrastructure capable of integrating the new mining development with existing assets while supporting long-term operational requirements.
Genus was engaged by BHP to undertake the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the transmission infrastructure associated with the project.
The works involved delivery of a 132kV transmission line connecting the South Flank mining area and new Ore Handling Plant (OHP) to the existing Junction Substation.
The project leveraged Genus’ integrated capability across engineering, procurement and construction delivery.

Genus delivered EPC services for the transmission infrastructure supporting the South Flank development.
The scope includes:
The project formed part of the infrastructure enabling expansion of BHP’s Mining Area C operations.
The project was successfully completed on schedule in May 2021.
The completed infrastructure supports the South Flank development and contributes to increased operational capacity across BHP’s Mining Area C hub.
