Ausgrid has been appointed by the Energy Corporation of New South Wales as the preferred network operator for delivery of the sub-transmission network for the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone.
The Hunter-Central Coast REZ is one of the first five Renewable Energy Zones being developed by the New South Wales Government.
The region was chosen because it has strong renewable energy resources and can utilise existing power stations, rehabilitated mining land, electricity network infrastructure, port and transport infrastructure, and a skilled workforce.
The project involves upgrading the existing electricity network so new renewable generation can connect to the grid. By focusing mainly on network upgrades, the project is designed to minimise impacts on surrounding communities and the environment while delivering capacity to transfer at least 1 gigawatt of network transfer capacity.
Genus has been awarded a contract by Ausgrid for the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone sub-transmission line works.
The contract value is circa $140 million, including Early Works.
Peak manning resources are expected to be 120, provided mostly from Genus’ existing workforce, with any additional workforce requirements to be sourced locally where available.

The works include demolition, construction and communications upgrades across the existing sub-transmission network.
The scope includes:
Project ongoing.
The project will increase network transfer capability across the Hunter-Central Coast region and strengthen the existing electricity network.
