Fortescue is progressing an ambitious decarbonisation strategy across its mining, port, rail, non-process infrastructure (NPI) and mobile fleet operations in the Pilbara, targeting real zero terrestrial emissions by 2030.
A key component of this strategy is development of green power generation infrastructure to support decarbonisation across operations.
To support this transition, new power distribution infrastructure was required across Fortescue’s Eliwana and Flying Fish mine sites, enabling integration of renewable power and strengthening electrical infrastructure across operations.
Genus was engaged to deliver the infrastructure supporting this next phase of network development.
Genus was awarded a contract for the design, construction and commissioning of approximately 41 kilometres of underground and overhead power distribution infrastructure across the Eliwana and Flying Fish sites.
The project draws on Genus’ capabilities across Transmission & Distribution, Network Services and Design & Construction, supporting Fortescue’s broader decarbonisation program.
The contract value is approximately $28 million.
Project delivery commenced immediately following award.
Genus is delivering new 33kV overhead and underground distribution infrastructure across the project sites.
The scope includes:
The project is expected to engage approximately 40 personnel during delivery.
Works are scheduled for completion in Q4 2025.
Project ongoing.
The project supports Fortescue’s decarbonisation program and contributes to the electrical infrastructure required to enable renewable power integration across Pilbara operations.
